Lake Varlaam – Romania rules and general information

Lake Varlaam:

1. Rules

You must report to the manager at the times below.
If you are delayed, please contact the owner or us by telephone.
Week from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM (7 nights)

Lake Varlaam is an area of natural beauty and it is important that all anglers respect the environment and the fish. Our aim is to create a relaxing, high quality location with excellent fishing opportunities. The following rules apply:

Anglers must have their own bivvy, large carp landing net, and weigh sling. Only weigh slings with floating supports are allowed. The minimum landing net size is 42". Only green fishing tents and umbrellas are permitted. Bivvies may only be set up in designated areas.
Absolutely no fish shall be kept unless specifically permitted by management. Any damaged, sick, or dead fish must be reported to management immediately.
When weighing or photographing a fish, scales, weigh slings, cameras, etc. must all be present and ready for use before the fish is taken out of the water. The fish must remain in the landing net in the water until everything is ready and should be out of the water for as short a time as possible. Fish must not be lifted above knee height. Standing while holding fish for photography is not allowed. The fish must be kept as close to the ground and the unhooking mat as possible and placed back into the lake in a weigh sling or mat. Large unhooking mats must be used at all times.
Four rods are allowed per angler. Additional rods can be arranged on site for an extra fee.
Fishing is only allowed from designated swim.
The casting weight must detach easily from the main line in the event of a line break, and this will be regularly checked. Safety equipment must be used at all times. All sinkers, beads, etc., must be able to come loose in the event of a line break.
The use of micro barbed hooks is allowed. The use of barbless, twisted hooks, or bent hooks is prohibited.
The nylon main line must have a diameter between 0.40 and 0.45 mm due to zebra mussels and gravel bottom. Snag leaders are required. Use 15 meters of abrasion-resistant mono or fluorocarbon with a diameter of 0.60-0.70 mm. Leadcore and leadcore alternatives (safezone-style lead cores and tubing) can be used, but these must also be ultra-safe rigs and will be checked by the management.
Braided main line is NOT allowed on rods, but it is permitted on spod and marker rods.
Boats (up to 3 meters in length), electric motors, and bait boats are allowed, but you must be considerate of other anglers. You may bring and use your own without additional cost. They are also available for rent.
Particles: The use of well-soaked and cooked particles is allowed. These may NOT be prepared in the accommodation. Up to 5 kg per day may be used.
Only high-quality bait is allowed—we reserve the right to refuse the use of inferior quality bait on our lake. Absolutely NO tiger nuts or peanuts. Tiger nuts may only be used as hookbait.
Rods must not be left unattended while fishing. This helps ensure the safety of both the fish and your gear, and it’s important for maintaining a fair fishing environment for everyone.
Flexible markers are allowed.
A life jacket is mandatory (please bring your own).
Damage to trees and plants is strictly prohibited.
Individuals who cause damage to property may be held liable for the costs.
Captured fish remain the property of the venue and must be handled with the utmost care. No kill.

Violation of the above rules may result in immediate removal. This decision can be made unilaterally by the owner. Please adhere to the rules to ensure that everyone has a fantastic week.

2. General ruls

We want to record the growth of each carp, so please inform the manager of every carp you catch.
The use of alcohol is permitted, but in moderation. Abuse of alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated. Those found to be intoxicated will be asked to leave.

Swimming is not allowed.
Open fires are not allowed at the fishing spots, including all forms of barbecuing. There are designated areas for barbecues near the parking lot.
Once your equipment has been delivered to your fishing spot, cars must be parked in the parking lot for the duration of your session.
Toilets and showers are available 24 hours a day, with constant hot water. Please leave these areas as clean as you found them.
Management reserves the right to search any vehicle entering or leaving the premises to ensure that fish is not being removed, illegally transferred, or stolen. This right can only be exercised in the presence of the person using the vehicle, but refusal to cooperate may result in the revocation of the vehicle owner’s right to fish and/or remain on the premises.
All anglers using a boat during the cold season (from October 15 to April 15) are required to wear a suitable life jacket. Lake Varlaam or its employees cannot be held liable for any accidents and/or injuries to anglers or their property, regardless of the cause, while on the premises. It is the anglers' responsibility to ensure they are protected and aware of the dangers of fishing. All management decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

3. Sights and Active Recreation

If you’d like to engage in some activities, you might want to check out the following:

Stone house Udrişte Năsturel

Str. Miloș Obrenovici 32, Herăşti 087126, Romania

Review: A beautiful summer retreat (yes, some people had something like this nearly 4 centuries ago...sic!). It’s impressive how well the stone house has been maintained, with the most recent restoration being done in the 1950s. It’s worth the walk and would also be worth visiting in other ways (concerts, wine tastings, etc.).

Roemeens Atheneum

1, Strada Benjamin Franklin 1-3, București 030167, Romania

You can visit the Atheneum building. Enter through the right entrance and request a paid tour.

Arcul de Triumf

Piața Arcul de Triumf, București 011453, Romania

Children's Town Bucharest | Orășelul Copiilor

C425+68 Boekarest, Romania

A perfect park for children: clean, colorful, and with many attractions, shade, and outdoor play areas. It could be improved in the bathrooms and the abandoned barracks, but otherwise, it’s great.
