River Lot
The Lot is a rain-fed river that originates in the Massif Central. From there, it winds westward until it eventually flows into the Garonne. Between its source and confluence, you’ll find some of the most beautiful spots, such as the department’s capital, Cahors, and the charming, lesser-known town of Cajarc. The most picturesque places, however, are Saint-Cirq-Lapopie and Puy-l’Évêque, both considered among the most beautiful spots in France. These locations provide a stunning backdrop for beautiful man-fish photos. If you prefer even more seclusion, the Lot is a true paradise with many places untouched by human presence, allowing nature to take its course. Lot of Carp is located in Albas, a village in the heart of the most beautiful part of the Lot. Nearby towns like Prayssac, Puy-l’Évêque, and Luzech have everything you need: supermarkets, gas stations, excellent bakeries, and, of course, big carp! We primarily rent our boats between Cahors and Fumel. In consultation, another section can be chosen. You can park your car with us.

Dutch Fishing Guide

Joachim Stelma is a Dutch fishing guide on one of France’s most renowned rivers, the Lot. For years, he spent at least ten weeks a year in France catching carp. He knows almost every path leading to the river. It’s a hobby within a hobby for him; he wants to know everything and figures everything out. This has led to extensive knowledge about the river, including water levels, currents, fishing techniques (per season), and the carp population in each section.

Fishing Techniques

River fishing, especially on the Lot, is entirely different from lake fishing. It requires considerable knowledge and experience to fish under various conditions. There are many obstacles, and the water can suddenly start flowing rapidly. The Lot is teeming with carp, but catching them requires significant effort and dedication.

Carp Fishing on the Lot

The Lot’s current can be quite unpredictable. Even in summer, after weeks without rain, it can suddenly start flowing very fast. When is the best time? There is no definitive answer. Every period has its charm, and carp can be caught well in each one! The current is minimal around summer. Spring weather can be somewhat changeable. Autumn is very stable: it remains pleasant until November!

River Sections

Not all river sections are the same; they vary in length, depth, bottom type, vegetation, and the number and size of carp they host. Some sections mainly have elongated common carp. In other sections, large mirror carp predominate. Some sections have a mix of both. This will be discussed before your arrival to maximize your chances of catching what you are looking for.

Order Permit Online

You can purchase a permit via www.cartedepeche.fr and print it out. The website is available in English. You must first create an account and upload a photo. Then choose the type of permit you want. A vacation permit is valid for seven days and costs €32. Choose ‘association’ Prayssac. The rest is straightforward. If you need assistance, feel free to contact us.
