Fishing session on Lac de Lepinet: By Bjorn Leyse
During the Easter holidays we had chosen to spend a week fishing in France. Soon we made plans and ended up on Angeling Escapes. After looking at a few waters anyway, we ended up at Lac Du Lepinet. But Cornona didn’t leave us cold. We then put everything in place to get from Belgium to France after all. After about six hours of driving, we arrived at Lac Du Lepinet.

Lac de Lepinet: a great bivvy water.
We started setting up our tents and getting the rods ready. Then we decided to take the boat out on the water, looking for hard stretches of plateaus. It is advisable to invest time in looking for the hard plateau’s out there.
Soon we laid the rods spot on. The first take followed quickly and I managed to cash the first carp. This certainly gave me confidence to start the week.
First Easter Day
We started the day with a bream take. Soon there followed a second take which immediately felt good, the first 40 pounder I could pull over the net. I clocked up a 22.7 kg mirror. My day could not be better! After we had made breakfast another take came in with a 21.8 kg mirror. About 30 minutes later a few beeps came through on the bite alarm. After a tough drill I was able to land this one. To my surprise it clocked in at 21.9 kg. That day I caught 3 other 30 pounders.
A day never to be forgotten!

A black day
This day has been one of the lesser days, with about 5 fish being landed. It may indicate that the carp are baiting more cautiously because they are coming out of a winter season. We changed our tactics. First, we changed the bait, taking smaller baits. And second, we changed the rig a bit.
This turned out to be the right choice. The day resulted then anyway with a catch of seven carp, two of which were 40 pounders on the side.
Colder days and nights
As the week progressed, the days and nights became significantly colder, with nights reaching as low as -4°C. The cold nights did not affect the catches. It soon became clear that the bait periods were in the night and early morning.

Bait Selection
The choice in bait was quickly made, we would go for Holland Baits. We took 2 flavors: Scopex Liver and Garlic Robin Red & fish. We also include the accompanying stick mix and bait boosters. The stick mix is definitely an added value this time of year. Buckwheat we also took.
This bait choice proved to be the right one for these waters.
