Marcel Klein on Lac de Lepinet

We were at swim 1 on Lepinet from August 13 to 20. It was my seventh time there and my sister-in-law's fourth time. The journey went well with no traffic jams, just occasional slow-moving traffic. We arrived on Saturday and saw fish on the spot right away, given the high temperatures we decided to set up our camp first which consisted of a screenhouse and each of us a private tent for sleeping.

The screenhouse is very useful on both good and bad weather days, and I can recommend it to anyone who goes fishing with more people. We couldn’t catch any fish on Saturday, and this was undoubtedly due to the temperatures that day and the week before.
On the 2nd day, we were able to catch 4 fish, including the first forty-pounder, and there was a slight change in the weather noticeable.

The third there was thunderstorm and this was necessary for the fish to go loose we caught 14 fish that day including another forty.

We had multiple double runs and a triple run this week.
On Wednesday, my sister-in-law even managed to land a 26-kilo fish, which of course meant a PB for her.

We caught a total of 58 fish 1 fiver, 6 forties 18 thirties and this number of fish could have been more if we had put more on but considering the high temperatures and enjoying ourselves was paramount we had several moments where we left some rods out.

About the lake, the water has dropped considerably, but this doesn’t cause any problems for the fishing or the fish; it’s more of an advantage as the trees on the side no longer hang in the water at swim 1, so they can’t dive into them.
The fish are particularly strong, which makes for a great sport, and you never know in advance if it’s a large or smaller fish.
Unfortunately, this also has a downside. I think many people drill too hard and don’t give the fish any leeway, which means that many fish have a damaged mouth corner.

The sanitary facilities are neat and adequate. This week, they were also always left neatly by the other anglers. Unfortunately, I have seen it differently sometimes.
If I were to suggest an improvement, it would be that the shower cubicles could have been slightly larger (they are certainly neat and free, while with the previous owner you had to pay for a much lesser shower). And a separate toilet for ladies and gentlemen might not be a bad idea either.

We saw the baylif regularly this week and both men also mastered English quite well so good communication was possible.

The fishing: In itself, not very difficult. Just act normal and pay attention to the water, and if a swim falls silent and doesn’t produce, look for another swim. For example, on Thursday I had looked for a new swim, and it yielded 6 more fish in the last 20 hours, while our ‘hotspot’ died.
Remarkable was that we fished almost everything singlebait 18mm strawberry and we only caught 1 bream while I had done the same last year with the scopex squid and then we caught one bream after another, forcing me to adjust my bait.
Overall: Again, had a very nice week and will certainly not be the last time we have been here.

Good catches all!
