Etang Morlou – Chalet

Family location

Etang Morlou is one of the better family locations within the Angling Escapes package. This location offers a lot of fun not only for you as a fisherman, but there are many possibilities for the whole family!

Etang Morlou Chalet
This secluded holiday home is a 4 to 5-person chalet, located by the lake, with its own private jetty and plenty of surrounding space. Please note that if you wish to night fish, you will need to stay overnight at the waterside. This means you cannot fish directly from the accommodation.

You have a view of the lake with the surrounding rolling meadows where the horses run, the forest and where you can see the beautiful sunset. Immediately cast your rods in the lake and enjoy the peace and beauty that our immediate surroundings have to offer together with your family, friends or girlfriend.

You can enjoy the peace and space around you here, but also visit the many picturesque towns or brocantes in the immediate vicinity, the village shop is already 1 km away.

The owners offer a bread service from the local bakery, so you can enjoy fresh bread for breakfast every morning, if you wish. Furthermore, all linen, such as bed and kitchen linen, is provided; you only need to bring your own bath towels.
Tourist tax, electricity, water and wood are included in the price.

The accommodation
Accommodations feature a wood stove and radiator in the bathroom, duvets, bed linen, pillows, refrigerator with freezer compartment, coffee maker, oven, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, garden furniture, wood, stove, television with Dutch channels among others, internet connection, high chair and/or crib on request. Washing machine can be used for 4 euros per wash.

The chalet is made of robust wood and is fully equipped, such as 2 bedrooms with wonderful box spring beds (in the large room a double box spring of 160×200 cm, the 2nd room has 2 box spring beds of 90×200 cm) and living room with sofa bed, wood stove, Dutch TV and internet. There is a complete kitchen, bathroom with a spacious shower and sink and a separate toilet. Outside there is garden furniture, sun loungers and a BBQ.

Dogs cannot run completely free on the property due to, among other things, the other guests, but it is no problem directly around the gîtes and on the fields further on.

Smoking is not allowed inside!

You can stay in various ways while fishing. For campers there is clean, neat sanitary facilities with hot shower and (dish) washing area, electricity and WiFi.

The lake
Because water constantly flows into the lake from the forest on the left, the water is always fresh, nutrient-rich, and healthy. Also, because the owners drain lakes, they can acquire beautiful carp that have lived in very old waters and have never been caught by a fisherman, so they are extremely strong. The lake has been cleared of undergrowth and a number of trees to create 5 fishing spots, 4 by the houses and 1 for the fisherman with a tent, caravan, or camper. It is possible to move around in the places where you want to set up your tent or camper. Water always flows into the lake through the middle via the forest on the left. The depth there is about 1 meter, 1.50 meters in the middle, and about 2 meters at the dam. It flows out again on the right side. So the water is always fresh, nutrient-rich, and healthy. The long sides of 40 cm with hard sand slope towards the middle where it is muddy. There are no obstacles, aquatic plants, or weeds in the lake.

The fish stock
There are between 150 and 180 carp swimming in the lake, and it’s a diverse stock, ensuring the fishing remains exciting. Here you can catch Common Carp, Leather Carp, Mirror Carp, Ghost Carp, Grass Carp, and Koi Carp, ranging from large to very large sizes. As the owners themselves drain lakes and source the most beautiful and healthiest fish, this stock continues to expand. Furthermore, there are also beautiful diverse species of large sturgeon, a pink Grass Carp, and Golden Orfe. The owners drain the lake every 2 years and remove unwanted fish; pike, zander, black bass, and roach are available for purchase, but they also help maintain a good balance in the lake. The carp have a weight between 8 and 25 kilos with an average weight of 16 kilos. Keep in mind that crayfish may be present on many French waters, so it is always easy to have mesh for around your boilies with you. At Etang Morlou you also have to take into account poisson chat (small catfish). The water is fished every year, which fortunately makes it not too bad.

You may fish for carp day and night with 3 rods, there are 2 free rowing boats for use and it’s allowed to use your own bait boats. It’s possible to buy fishmeal pellets and crayfish boilies.

The owners arrange bread service from the warm bakery, for shopping you can go to large supermarkets 12-15 km away in nice villages and towns that are worth visiting. Fishing must be done according to house rules and booking means you have accepted this.

The Facilities
On the Etang Morlou estate, there is a toilet block with a shower and a washing-up area for those who prefer to camp. The bread service is arranged by the Dutch owner at the local bakery, and for groceries, you can visit large supermarkets approximately 12-15 km away, where charming villages and towns are also worth visiting.

Surroundings and Activities
Less than half an hour from here, there are 2 riding schools that offer programs for every level. One specializes entirely in working with small children, even from 2 years old, while the other can teach you the finer points of horse riding, including endurance. Both offer outdoor rides with riders and horses or ponies, often passing by castles and forests. You’ll feel transported to another world and will enjoy breathtaking moments, thanks to the peace and quiet of the beautiful surrounding nature. Costs from €10 per hour per person.

From our estate there are over 700 castles and ancient churches in the vicinity. The beautiful river l’Allier is also 4 km away, where whitewater canoe trips can be made, or you can swim in the crystal clear water.
