Carplake Katlov

At 450 meters above sea level lies the Czech carp water ‘Carplake Katlov’, owned by ‘Big Fish Man’ Jakub Vagner. Located in central Bohemia with its many ridges, sleepy old villages and green fields, hidden among abundant nature on one of the ridges near the village of Červené Janovice. This catfish and carp paradise is a true mecca for both beginner and advanced predator anglers, carp anglers, and coarse anglers. This beautiful fishing paradise is about 950 kilometers from our lowlands. The advantage is that you’ll drive mostly through Germany where you can determine your own speed. Apart from the vignette costing a few euros at the border crossing, there are no toll roads or excessive costs. The Czech Republic itself is also a very beautiful and inexpensive country compared to the Netherlands.

The complex consists of two waters. Catlake Pohan is part of the Katlov fishing resort consisting of Carplake Katlov specially for the carp angler and Catlake Pohan specially for the catfish angler. Jakub Vagner has personally determined and created all the underwater vegetation on both lakes to make everything as ‘fishy’ as possible. This means: beautiful slopes, small islands, various types of aquatic plants, well-designed swims, lots of nature and an amazing fish stock. Catlake Pohan is located next to the 25-hectare Carplake Katlov lake and with its 2.5 hectares of water and 3 double swims is a somewhat smaller lake. Katlov has no fewer than 17 large double swims, between almost every swim a dry toilet has been built so you don’t have to walk far.

At the arrival area you can unload and park your car, via this road all equipment can be transferred to a boat to sail to the fishing swim. The arrival area offers 3 different buildings. The first building is a compact angling shop, the second building is the house of the manager who can oversee everything nicely from this point. And the third building houses very neat showers and toilets. On the other side of the lake there will also be a sanitary building, which will be ready at the end of 2017.

Catlake Pohan
With a large stock of catfish, including some over 100 kilos, mandarin catfish, and several beautiful mirror and common carp, it’s a great spot for fishing if you enjoy a lot of action! At Catlake Pohan, you can fish at night, use belly boats, fish with active lures, and fish with live bait or pellets using a buoy or static bottom rig. Additionally, you can also set up a carp rod for some variety. The lake has an island in the middle, 3 large fishing platforms along the sides, and boats are available to take your lines out. The average depth is 1 to 2 meters, with a deeper section up to about 4 meters in the middle. Reed beds, trees, hard edges, and aquatic grasses surround the lake, making it the perfect hideout for catfish in a natural setting. Since both waters can be booked per day, combining the two is a great experience!

Katlov homes
Since 2021 it has been possible to reserve beautiful accommodation at Katlov. There are 4 luxury accommodations in total. It offers a terrace, lake view, seating area, flat-screen TV, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and refrigerator. A private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. For extra convenience, the accommodation can provide towels and bed linen for an additional charge. Each accommodation has two bedrooms. One with a double bed and a bedroom with two single beds. It is also possible to convert the sofa into a bed for two people. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fish directly from the accommodation. If you would like to reserve a swim in combination with a house, this is possible by arrangement.

Facilities
Catlake Pohan and Carplake Katlov are about 960 kilometers drive from Amsterdam. Flying to Prague is even faster, a pick-up and drop-off service from the airport to the resort can be booked as an extra in the package. Katlov & Pohan have a shower-toilet building, electricity, wifi at the central parking area. They also provide meal service at the swim and you can rent your angling equipment and buy bait there. In addition, there is always an experienced fishing guide present. If you want more luxury and less ‘back to basics’, there are also some chalets available on the grounds. About 15 minutes drive from the resort there are restaurants and shops, including many angling shops.

In Červené Janovice, you can find almost everything you need. If you’re looking for a bit more, the city of Kutná Hora is just a 21-minute drive away.

Rules

Arrival time 2:00 PM, departure time 12:00 PM.
You are expected to know the rules of Carplake Katlov upon arrival.
By booking and arrival, the visitor agrees to the rules below.
Fishing permit is valid for 3 rods with a single rig and single hook.
Long shank hooks, cranked hooks, and bent hooks are forbidden.
Only freefall systems are allowed. This means that in case of line breakage, the carp will only swim with a rig.
Main line must be at least 30/100 nylon.
Lead leaders are prohibited, use only lead-free versions. Helicopter rig and chod rig are prohibited.
Types of bait allowed: Boilies, pellets, cooked particles, imitation bait, method mix. It is allowed to play the fish from a boat (1 boat per spot on location with oars available).
Feeder fishing is allowed, without fixed systems.
You may use markers (only plastic rods).
You are required to take good care of your caught fish. Wet your unhooking mat before use. And repeatedly wet the fish when it is on the mat. If the carp has wounds, you are required to use Carp Care/antiseptic to treat the wounds.
On location, there is an unhooking mat, weighing bag, and landing net available for you. However, we advise you to bring your landing net as the catch numbers are high. If you bring your own landing net, discuss this with the manager to treat it against diseases. You can also prevent diseases by ensuring your equipment is well dried after your previous session.
When taking a fish photo, you are required to hold the fish while crouching/kneeling. Standing with the fish is strictly prohibited! The photo session must not last longer than 5 minutes. Carp heavier than 15 kg may only be photographed in the water. Bring your waders or hip boots for this. These are also available for rent.
It is forbidden to keep your fish!
Dogs are allowed, report this to the manager upon arrival. You must keep your pet at your spot and clean up its waste. The owner has a small dog named Charlie, which makes a daily round around the lake.
It is not possible to reach all spots with your car. You are likely to need to transport your fishing gear by boat to the spot.
There are predatory fish in the water, fishing for them is prohibited.

House rules
Parking is only allowed at the main parking area.
You are required to use the WC and shower on location. You may not swim in the lake. Toilets have been built at Katlov between each fishing spot. Furthermore, there is a large sanitary building for showering, toileting, or doing your dishes.
Excessive alcohol consumption is not allowed. All types of drugs are prohibited.
Radio is allowed, keep in mind your neighbors, the volume must remain low.
The spot must remain clean, just as you found it.
It is forbidden to damage nature in and around the water.
A campfire is allowed at the designated place or you can bring your own stove, these are also available for rent.
Breaking these rules will lead to removal from the premises without refund of your reservation. Future reservations may also be refused.
Visitors are allowed, but you must inform the manager in advance.
The owner of Catlake Pohan has the rights to all photos and video material made on location. These will be used for commercial purposes or promotion.
Please note that you are responsible for your belongings in case of theft or damage.

On all waters brokered by Angling Escapes, you are required to bring First Aid/Carp Care and treat the carp with it.
The manager, owner, nor Angling Escapes is liable for loss and/or theft of goods or accidents and/or bodily injury. Neither the manager/owners of the water nor Angling Escapes can be held responsible for damage or loss of your belongings.
Important, ensure that you have taken out travel and cancellation insurance.
If the above rules are not respected, the owner may at any time force you to leave the premises without any refund of the travel sum.
