Catlake Pohan

In addition to the beautiful catfish in Catlake Pohan, there are also carp, grass carp, bream, crucian carp, perch, and roach. This diversity of fish ensures a stable environment for all fish species. You are also allowed to go angling for the other fish types, but the emphasis is on the presence of catfish. Your angling trip is supervised by the Catlake Pohan team. This team consists of experienced guides or competition anglers who specialize in catfish angling! This makes Catlake Pohan an ideal starting location for learning to go angling for catfish.

Catlake Pohan is 2.5 hectares in size with an average depth of 2.5 meters. The bottom of the lake varies in depth towards the dam and ends at a depth of 4.5 meters. Towards the island, it rises again and the water becomes shallower again. Three swims have been created on Catlake Pohan, each swim has plenty of water so you can fully enjoy your angling vacation and pursue your hobby. Because the island is in the middle of the water, you will not experience any nuisance from other anglers.

Swim 1
This swim is located on the north side of Catlake Pohan. You can also reach this swim by car. This allows you to easily unload your fishing gear and then park the car at the parking area near the manager’s house and general parking area. There is always the possibility to use a boat on location. Underwater, a slope edge runs about 50 meters from the jetty with a depth of around 1 meter which extends to 1.5 meters deep. Directly in front of the jetty at a distance of about 80 meters there is also a slope edge where the catfish like to spend the night. This edge is about 3.2 meters deep! During the right period, this is a great hotspot and definitely worth trying.

Swim 1 is suitable for angling in deeper parts of the water. When you fish the right side towards swim 2 you will find the shallower parts. This slope edge also indicates the angling sector of swim 1. The zones are also marked with a buoy or the manager will point out the sector to you. This swim has a nice jetty that lies over the water. These jetties are equipped with holes, so you can place the standards for the catfish rods here. This way you can fish with a buoy or with a break line. There is room on the jetty to place a two-person bivvy. If you are planning to do this, it is useful to bring pegs that can be mounted in wood.

Swim 2
This swim is located in the northwest of Catlake Pohan. This swim has challenging depths and shallows. The average depth here is between 1 meter and 2.2 meters. The deepest point is about 3 meters and is located approximately 100 meters from the fishing swim. On the right side of the zone is an island with a depth of around 1.4 meters, making this swim extremely suitable for float fishing. In front of the jetty, a deep channel has been made in the bottom to trigger and catch the fish. This jetty is equipped with holes so you can place the rod stands for the catfish rods here. This way you can float fish or use a breakaway rig. There is space on the jetty to place a two-person bivvy. If you plan to do this, it’s handy to bring pegs that can be mounted in wood.

Swim 3
This swim has a natural jetty/beach and is situated in the south of Catlake Pohan. The general parking area is located 30 meters behind you. On the right side of this swim runs an underwater bend which is frequently visited by catfish when the weather is nice. It is therefore advised to definitely try a float rig here. At this swim you can nicely float fish or cast out a spinning rod! In front of the jetty you have plenty of water up to the dam which you can fish completely with a depth of about 3 meters. The dam is also an interesting zone with overhanging trees and reed beds and therefore definitely worth testing!

Katlov homes
Since 2021 it has been possible to reserve beautiful accommodation at Katlov. There are 4 luxury accommodations in total. It offers a terrace, lake view, seating area, flat-screen TV, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and refrigerator. A private bathroom with shower and free toiletries. For extra convenience, the accommodation can provide towels and bed linen for an additional charge. Each accommodation has two bedrooms. One with a double bed and a bedroom with two single beds. It is also possible to convert the sofa into a bed for two people. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fish directly from the accommodation. If you would like to reserve a swim in combination with a house, this is possible by arrangement.

Necessary materials

The manager will check your material for correctness and whether it meets the requirements.

Float fishing: With rods using more than 400 grams of lead weight, nylon mainline is prohibited.
Use the following: braided mainline for 60 kg combined with a leader for 100 kg.
Good hooks are from the following brands: Owner, Gamakatsu, Mustad or Madcat.
When float fishing you may only use a system for two single hooks with a maximum 6/0 size.

Spinning and/or bellyboat
Is only allowed from the jetties at your fishing spot/jetty unless otherwise agreed with the manager. You may enter the water with waders within your own sector but NOT deeper than waist height! Remember that some slope edges drop very quickly. You will receive a depth chart of the water with your reservation, pay attention when entering the water with waders that there may be deep slope edges. Depending on whether you want to spin for perch or catfish, the rod will need to be equipped with the right tackle.

The line must have a minimum breaking strength of 30/40 kg. You may use Twisters equipped with a Jighead with a single hook on the tail piece. Using a treble hook with a maximum size of 2/0 is also allowed. Plugs or blinkers/spoons are specially designed for the catfish and equipped with good hooks. Each plug or lure you use may have a maximum of a single treble hook of 3/0.
