If you love nature, you’ve come to the right place at De Ganzenkuil (the Goosepit). This water has no constructed swims, allowing the environment to retain its natural beauty completely. This makes it an ideal water for carp anglers who like to sit in the middle of nature and want to use a dinghy. Moreover, De Ganzenkuil is a challenging water with multiple drop-offs and houses a large and diverse carp stock, including real heavy fish.

De Ganzenkuil is a 19-hectare water, located near Nijmegen in Gelderland. This crystal-clear gravel pit was originally a sand extraction site and therefore has considerable depths up to a maximum of 22 meters. Due to these depths, it’s mandatory to use a rowing boat. The water accommodates a maximum of 7 anglers (13 for exclusive bookings), ensuring there’s always sufficient space to optimally enjoy your angling.

A natural experience

De Ganzenkuil has an unspoiled and natural character that makes you feel like you’re in a true carp paradise. Overhanging trees, extensive lily fields and even some curious sheep define the scenery. With a bit of luck you’ll spot a deer coming to drink along the bank. Far away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by nature. No constructed swims or clubhouse: back to nature; that’s exactly what De Ganzenkuil stands for.

Arrival and Departure Times

  • Arrival time: 1:00 PM
  • Departure time: 12:00 PM

Facilities

At De Ganzenkuil there’s the possibility to charge batteries, which is very handy when you need to boat out regularly, play fish or charge your phone. The charging points are located both left and right next to the owner’s house. Additionally, there’s a drinking water point available. Several toilets have been installed and a shower is being added—a welcome luxury, especially during cold days or longer stays.

Natural swims

Don’t expect beautifully constructed swims with gravel or wood chips at De Ganzenkuil. Instead, you’ll find six natural swims here, where moving swims is possible in consultation with the bailiff. Most swims offer sufficient space for two anglers. To complete the natural experience, there’s a good chance you’ll see a deer or stag pass by, while kingfishers gratefully make use of your rod tips. However, there’s a factory nearby, which means the peace at swim 4 can be somewhat disturbed during weekdays.

Swim layout and map

  • Swim 1: Two-person swim. Linked to swim 7; you choose which one to fish on site.
  • Swim 2: One-person swim, available again for solo anglers.
  • Swim 3: Two-person swim.
  • Swim 4: Not available for online booking. Only fishable in consultation with the bailiff when swim 3 is free.
  • Swim 5: Two-person swim.
  • Swim 6: Not available for online booking. Only available for use in consultation when you want to move swims.

The map of De Ganzenkuil shows a private area; no bivvy may be placed on this side. There are two entrances to the domain. Swims 1, 2, 3 and 4 use the small gate; swims 5, 6 and 7 use the large gate. Swims 1, 3 and 4 are accessible by car via a gravel path. When arriving with a large van, it’s wise to check the path first, as vegetation can be quite dense in some months.

Accessibility

The roads to the other swims are unpaved. In dry periods they’re perfectly accessible by car, but in wet months it’s advisable to first check if the road is passable. Wheelbarrows and trolleys are available, and if necessary you may transport your gear to the swim by boat. When the ground is passable, cars may remain at the swim. A maximum of six cars are allowed on the grounds.

The fish stock

De Ganzenkuil has traditionally had a beautiful stock of common and mirror carp, including lovely dark old warriors. Due to the bottom contours it’s not possible to completely net the lake, so the exact fish stock is unknown. Therefore we’d love to receive your catch photos to better map the stock.

New releases

Each year new fish are stocked to supplement the existing population. As a result, there are now more than 100 fish over 15 kilos and over 30 carp of 19 kilos and more. 20-kilo fish are regularly caught. Thanks to the large amount of natural food, the carp grow excellently. Bycatch hardly occurs; only the occasional tench sometimes manages to take your hookbait.

Our advice

To ensure fish safety, a dinghy is mandatory and you must bring your own. A dinghy is not only pleasant, but also necessary due to the many underwater obstacles. Using a dinghy is at your own risk and wearing a life jacket is mandatory.

Along the water there are many trees with overhanging branches and extensive lily fields. Therefore it’s extra nice to play fish from your boat. If available, it’s possible to hire a boat on location.
