In the Vienne department, close to the border with the Haute Vienne department, lies the beautiful and well-known Lac de Villedon. Lac de Villedon has a surface area of 37 hectares and has 13 swims. Of these, 2 have accommodation. On swim 1 this is the luxury gite and on swim 21 this is the more basic cabin. Since Villedon has an enormous history in terms of existence, I think most anglers in Europe know this amazing lake. The lake is fed by the small river Blour and this usually brings in fresh water that also positively affects the oxygen levels. The depth varies (also depending on the seasons) from around 4 meters at the dam to a maximum of 1 meter at the back near swim 12. In the summer period, the water level can be about 50 cm lower than in spring and autumn.

The fish stock of Lac de Villedon
The lake has a rich and varied stock of about 700 carp, with an average weight of around 15 kilos. You’ll find both powerful common carp and high-backed mirror carp, with several fish over 30+ kg. Due to the warm weather of the last 2 years, carp are also spawning at Villedon. Also, because the lake is in open connection with the river, dwarf catfish can occasionally occur. That’s why at Villedon a drainage is done every 2 to 3 years where the smaller spawning carp, dwarf catfish and crayfish are removed. This was last done in the winter of 2024
Besides carp, there are also some diamond sturgeon swimming and Paul, the owner, released 34 beautiful koi carp from his own breeding in August 2025.

The lake
Lac de Villedon is fed by the Blour river, which provides a constant flow of fresh water. This ensures higher oxygen levels.
The lake has a varied bottom structure. Along the banks it’s often harder, and towards the middle you’ll also find softer areas. If you look carefully, you’ll often see areas that are about 20 cm deeper. These holes are created by feeding carp. You’ll also find areas with a softer mud bottom. Don’t be afraid to fish these spots either. These areas can be surprisingly productive.

Management and services
Paul de Flines is the owner of Lac de Villedon. He does everything to make your fishing holiday as pleasant as possible. Besides expert advice on how and where to fish, he also offers the following services:
– Extensive tackle shop
– Fiberglass boats with electric motor and battery
– Complete food packages
