Since you’re vacationing in the poorer part of Spain, you’ll notice that dining out or grocery shopping is also much cheaper than what you’re used to in the Netherlands. Flying is the easiest option due to the greater distance. And since the guide already has all the equipment for you, you basically only need to bring some clothes, towels, and maybe your favorite lure. You can fly to Madrid and Seville. We recommend Seville because it has an excellent airport that is small and manageable. Easy for picking up your rental car. You’ll also quickly get out of the city and drive on the large, quiet, and clear highways toward Orellana la Vieja. The distance is almost 300 kilometers, but because the roads are wide, quiet, and clear, it goes quite smoothly. And people usually take 2.5 hours.
Of course, you can also fly to Madrid. The distance is about the same, you just take a bit longer to get out of the city and the airport is also much larger and busier. Whichever airport you choose, I can guarantee it will be an amazing trip. The nature and surroundings, the markings of the pike, the weather, the birds of prey circling above your head, and the friendly Spanish mentality will surprise you. Once you go this way, I’m afraid it becomes a lifelong addiction.
In the village of Orellana la Vieja, everything is available. Restaurants, bars, 3 supermarkets. Every Saturday morning there’s a market. There are many accommodation options in the area. Orellana la Vieja is a small village in the province of Extremadura. The province is about the same size as the Netherlands! In or near the village, there are several restaurants with Spanish cuisine. There are also 3 small supermarkets in the village itself. Every Saturday morning, there is a market from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The market is great for fresh vegetables, cheese, meat.

Tips:
If you want to fly, we recommend Seville airport. This is a small and manageable airport, from here it's still a 2.5-hour drive to Orellana la Vieja.
It's also possible to fly to Madrid airport, from here it's about a 3-hour drive to Orellana la Vieja.
