Castle Lake is located towards Macon in France. This beautiful pay lake certainly has its own characteristic appearance. Part of the water is surrounded by a forest with large pine trees. Another part of Castle Lake resembles a boulevard through the village of La Clayette, and at the head end of Castle Lake, a beautiful castle rises, overlooking the water. Castle Lake is also known as La Clayette, a location where you can carp fish from a bivvy swim. A maximum of 16 anglers are allowed on this magnificent water.

The lake
Castle Lake is a pay lake of no less than 30 hectares near Macon. And the surroundings are stunning! For those who prefer to fish a bit less but also want to soak up some culture, Castle Lake is definitely recommended. Or if you enjoy walking with your dog.

The fishing spots
There are 21 spots created by the water. Each spot has its own beautiful features for carp fishing. For example, spots 1, 2, and 3 are very nice single spots. We recommend these 3 spots to people who like to sit closer together as a three-person spot. It’s also possible to place a camper on this side. A camper is also possible at spots 5 and 6.
Spots 1 through 11 are single-person spots.
Spots 13 through 18 are single-person spots.
Spots 20 and 21 are single-person spots.
Spots 12 and 19 are two-person spots.

At spots 11, 12, 13, and 14, you find yourself in the shallower part of the water. Spot 14 is usually always closed for reservations because it’s too shallow with many obstacles and trees in the water. This side is very interesting because this is where the rainwater also flows into the lake and the ‘old’ river begins. In summer, there’s a large lily field on this side of the water where the carp like to feed. Keep in mind that at these spots you may have to fish around obstacles. And you’ll need to try to lure the fish out of the obstacles with tactical feeding. The spots are quite steep. On spots 11 to 16, it’s allowed to use a bait boat. What’s even nicer is to book the entire water for your own group so that more is allowed.

The fish stock
Castle Lake is home to many beautiful different carp. In particular, the ghost carp and koi carp stand out in terms of looks. Additionally, there are common carp and mirror carp swimming around. There are about 1600 carp in the water with an average weight between 8kg and 23kg. At the end of 2020, some very nice fish were added. Koi carp up to 15 kilos and large carp were stocked between 22 and 27 kilos!

Facilities
The village of La Clayette is opposite the water, making it easy to do some shopping. Or go to a restaurant to grab a bite to eat.
Each spot has toilet facilities available. This is a dry toilet. At the central point at Castle Lake, there is a shower and power to charge batteries if needed.
