Etang Du Grand Foret

Vlag voor France France Show on map

In the north of France next to ‘Lac Du Temple’ lies ‘Etang du Grand Foret’ in the beautiful nature reserve Parc naturel régional de la Forêt d’Orient. Many people also know the water as Grand Orient or Etang du Grand Orient. We have chosen to call it Etang du Grand Foret. Because there is a lot of confusion with the super large water Orient. Nature lovers will be impressed and moved by the beautiful surroundings here.

In terms of fishing, it is a big challenge due to the lily fields that emerge in the high season. Etang Du Grand Foret is 8 hectares in size and is located in the middle of nature. You feel completely alone in complete tranquility with only the sounds of nature around you. It is a challenging and difficult location due to the obstacles. But the hard work is definitely worth it, with the fish stock swimming here!

The lake
Etang du Grand Foret is also known as Etang du Grand Orient. We named the location Etang du Grand Foret because there was a lot of confusion with The Orient lake which is nearby. Which is called Parc naturel régional de la Forêt d’Orient.

The water is fictitiously divided into 7 zones with 6 swims, so that a maximum of 10 anglers are allowed to fish. And is rented in its entirety. So you have the entire water to yourself. There is a gravel path around Etang du Grand Foret, making everything easily accessible by car. The car is also allowed to remain at the swim, which makes it a lot easier to load and unload fishing gear. Or if you have a trailer that you would like to have nearby. The depths vary from half a meter to 4 meters and there are 2 islands in the water. The bottom is largely soft, but here and there you will find a number of hard plates. We do advise that you bring waders or a wading suit. On some banks, the shore slopes up slowly, which makes it pleasant to be able to walk towards the fish. Obstacle fishing has to be your thing for this location. In high season there may be weed present. The carp love this of course, but unfortunately the angler a little less! Rowing boats/rubber boats are allowed to fish the water properly.

Facilities
At the entrance of Etang du Grand Foret, there’s a cozy building/clubhouse where you can stay during bad weather. It has a basic kitchen, a large fireplace, and also includes a shower and toilet. The shower water is drawn from a well and then filtered. It’s not suitable for drinking unless boiled. The clubhouse is also equipped with solar panels so you can charge your batteries. And there’s a shower and toilet available. A basic kitchen with a large table and chairs.

It is possible that when the sun does not shine enough, the batteries of the clubhouse will not charge sufficiently. There is an aggregate if you want to use this, we advise you to bring a Jerrycan of petrol (euro 98) to use the aggregate available on location. The first jerrycan is free.

Boats are allowed to be used. If you have your own boat, we recommend bringing it. The boats on location are past their prime.
During warmer months, there might be more weed growth. Keep this in mind for your fishing. And the water level drops due to the heat. Therefore, it’s helpful to bring waders.

The Fish
Etang du Grand Foret was originally a hunting ground and the entire property is 400 hectares. In 2011, new managers took over, making fishing possible. The lake has a natural and very old stock that’s unknown, but hunters in the past were amazed when they saw the shadows swimming at the surface. On top of the unknown old stock, 800 carp were stocked, with several fish well over 20 kilos. Top fish of around 30 kilos, many 20 kilo plus fish and several carp over 25 kilos. An average weight of 16-17 kg makes this water very interesting.
