Etang Morlou – Gite

Family location
Etang Morlou is one of the better family locations in the Angling Escapes package. This location offers not only great pleasure for you as an angler, but there are many possibilities for the whole family!

Etang Morlou Gite
Gite l’Allier is a rustic holiday home directly by the water, suitable for 1 to 4 people. The owners have converted a robust farmhouse barn while preserving authentic details, such as the beautiful wooden beams, stone walls and a lovely wood stove. Everything else is super new and fully equipped. Please note that if you want to night fish, you cannot fish from the accommodation and will need to stay by the water.

On the mezzanine above are 2 beds that can be pushed together, you look up at the beautiful beams and down through the wrought iron railing, where the wood stove burns when it’s cold. Downstairs is the 2nd bedroom with a bunk bed, a bathroom with bathtub with shower, a washbasin, a separate toilet and a room/kitchen with a sofa bed. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy through the use of old and new items, so you’ll feel right at home.

Through the French doors you reach your terrace where it’s wonderful to relax on 13.5 hectares of private grounds, with streams and views of hills and forests. There are also 7 beautiful horses, chickens, rabbits, cats and a sweet dog.

Tourist tax, electricity, water and wood are included in the price.

Accommodations feature a wood stove and radiator in the bathroom, duvets, bed linen, pillows, refrigerator with freezer compartment, coffee maker, oven, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies, garden furniture, wood, stove, television with Dutch channels among others, internet connection, high chair and/or crib on request. Washing machine can be used for 4 euros per wash.

Dogs cannot run completely free on the property due to other guests, but it’s no problem directly around the gîtes and on the fields further away. Smoking is not allowed inside!

The lake
Because water always flows into the lake through the forest on the left, the water is always fresh, nutrient-rich, and healthy. Also, because the owners drain lakes, they can acquire beautiful carp that have lived in very old waters and have never been caught by a fisherman, so they are extremely strong. The lake has been cleared of undergrowth and a number of trees to create 5 fishing spots, 4 by the houses and 1 for the fisherman with a tent, caravan, or camper. It is possible to move around in the places where you want to set up your tent or camper. Water always flows into the lake through the middle via the forest on the left. The depth there is about 1 meter, 1.50 meters in the middle, and about 2 meters at the dam. It flows out again on the right side. So the water is always fresh, nutrient-rich, and healthy. The long sides of 40 cm with hard sand slope towards the middle where it is muddy. There are no obstacles, aquatic plants, or weeds in the lake.

The fish stock
There are between 150 and 180 carp swimming in the lake, and it is a varied group, so the fishing remains exciting. You can catch: Common carp, Leather carp, Mirror carp, Ghost carp, Grass carp and Koi carp of large to very large size, and because the owners themselves empty lakes and can get to the most beautiful and healthy fish, this assortment continues to expand. Furthermore, there are also beautiful diverse species of large sturgeon, a pink Grass carp and Goldfish. The owners empty the lake every 2 years and remove the unwanted fish, pike and zander, black bass and roach are for sale, but ensure a good balance in the lake. The carp have a weight between 8 and 25 kilos with an average weight of 16 kilos. Keep in mind that crayfish may be present on many French waters, so it is always easy to have mesh for around your boilies with you. At Etang Morlou you also have to take into account poisson chat (small catfish). The water is fished every year, which fortunately makes it not too bad.

You may fish for carp day and night with 3 rods, there are 2 free rowing boats for use and it’s allowed to use your own bait boats. It’s possible to buy fishmeal pellets and crayfish boilies.

The owners arrange bread service from the warm bakery, for shopping you can go to large supermarkets 12-15 km away in nice villages and towns that are worth visiting. Fishing must be done according to house rules and booking means you have accepted this.

The Facilities
On the Etang Morlou domain there is a toilet building with shower and a washing area for people who prefer camping. The bread service is arranged by the Dutch owner at the warm bakery and for shopping you can go to large supermarkets about 12-15 km away, where nice villages and towns are also worth visiting.

Surroundings and activities
Less than half an hour from here are 2 riding schools that have a program for you at every level. One is completely specialized in working with small children, even from 2 years old, the other can teach you the finer points of horse riding, also in the Endurance field. Both take riders and horses or ponies on outdoor rides that often go past castles and forests. You’ll feel like you’re in another world and will enjoy breathlessly, through the peace and quiet around you in the beautiful nature. Costs from 10 euros per hour per person.

From our estate there are over 700 castles and centuries-old churches in the nearby area. The beautiful river l’Allier is also 4 km away, where white water canoe trips can be made, or you can swim in the crystal clear water.
You can enjoy the peace and space around you here, but also visit the many picturesque towns or brocantes in the immediate area, the village shop is already 1 km away.
