The Ganzenkuil (Goose pit)

In the province of Gelderland, right at the river Waal and near Nijmegen you will find the beautiful 19 hectares of water named The Goose pit (De Ganzenkuil). This beautiful lake is one of our most popular and it’s not hard to see why once you get to know about this lake. It has depths up to 22 meters but there are shallower areas you can target too. The water is crystal clear and this has lead to the fish taking on an amazingly dark colouration, every fish that resides in this lake is rather special and the fishing itself is perfect, pure and totally natural. This is a lake that is essentially in the owners backyard (albeit a gigantic garden) and it’s relatively unknown in terms of what actually resides in here apart from the new stock as only a small select few were allowed to fish here before we added the GoosePit to Angling Escapes’ portfolio. The water is lined with a strip of rugged, unspoiled nature that will excite any angler.

Overhanging trees, lily fields, some curious sheep and with a bit of luck you can spot a deer coming to drink water. Far away from the hustle and bustle, in the middle of nature. No neatly laid out swims or a clubhouse. Back to nature. This is what the Ganzenkuil/Goosepit stands for.

The swims
At the Goosepit there is the possibility to charge your batteries. In case you often have to put out your lines or catch a lot of carp or want to charge your mobile phone. That is already a very nice luxury! You can find this close to the owner’s house on the left and on the right. As well as a point where there is drinking water. New for 2024, a welcome luxury, several toilets will be installed and you have the option to shower. The shower is a welcome luxury on a cold day or a longer stay! Don’t expect beautifully landscaped swims covered with gravel or wood chips at the Goosepit. What you will find here are seven natural swims and you can move during your stay in consultation with the manager/bailiff. Most spots offer plenty of space for two anglers. To complete the nature experience, there is a good chance that you will spot a deer or roe deer and the kingfishers will make grateful use of your fishing rod tips. However, there is a factory nearby that can disturb the natural peace during the week. You will experience this mostly on swim 4.

Swim 1 is a two-person swim and is combined with swim 7, which is also a two-person swim. When you reserve this you can choose on location whether you want to fish swim 1 or swim 7.
Swim 2 is a one-person swim. By popular request, it is now possible to make a reservation for 1 angler

Swim 4 This can no longer be reserved online. And fishing may only be done on location in consultation with the manager when swim 3 is still available.
Swim 5 is a two-person swim
Swim 6 can no longer be reserved online. And may only be chosen for relocation on location in consultation with the manager.
Swim 7 is combined with swim 1

A private area is indicated on the map of the Goosepit. You are not allowed to place a bivvy on this side of the lake. There are two entrances to the Goosepit domain. Swims 1,2,3 and 4 use the small gate. Sites 5,6 and 7 use the large gate. Swims 1,2,3 and 4 are easily accessible by car via a gravel road. If you have a large van, it is advisable to check the path before continuing, because the vegetation can be very wild in some months of the year.
The road to the other swims (5,6,7) is unpaved. In the dry periods you can easily get here by car. In the rainy months it is advisable to first view the road before driving over it with your car. Trolleys/wheelbarrows are available at the lake and it is also allowed to take your belongings to the swim by boat, if necessary. If everything is passable, cars may remain at the site.

The fish stock
The lake has traditionally had a fine population of scale and mirror carp. And beautiful dark old fighters have been captured. Unfortunately, it is not possible to net the Goosepit due to the soil, so the exact stock is not known. That is why we would also like to receive your fish photos! Every year, fish are stocked at The Goosepit to replenish the fish stock. As a result, more than 100 carp over 15kg+ and also 30 fish of 19kg+. Carp of 20 kilos are also regularly caught. There is a lot of natural food available for all fish, which means the carp grow well! On the Goosepit you have almost no other catches than carp, but sometimes a tench manages to take your hook bait.

Advice
To maximize fishing safety, the use of a dinghy is mandatory and you must bring one with you. A dinghy is not only pleasant on the Goosepit, but also necessary because of the many obstacles underwater. The use of a dinghy is at your own risk and you are required to wear a life jacket.
There are many trees with overhanging branches at the lake side and there are many lily fields. Therefore it is better to use the dinghy and better for the fish. It is possible to rent a boat on location (if available)

De Ganzenkuil has an untouched and natural character that makes you feel like you are in a real carp paradise. Between 7 and 10 minutes drive you will find several supermarkets.

At the Ganzenkuil it is not possible to book extra options for your fishing holiday.

There is no accommodation available at the Goosepit. There is a dry toilet and there are power points available where you can charge your batteries. Drinking water is also available.

When you select the arrival and departure day in the agenda, select a swim, a price calculation is automatically displayed and you can book online.

If you want to book the whole lake please select all the pegs. When all pegs are shown (1/7,2,3,5,7. And put in the comment box that you want to have the whole lake. Only a maximum of 7 anglers is allowed. If you want to fish the Goosepit in bigger groups this is possible for £110,- | €125,- per angler more (max. 14 anglers)

You may put your lines in the private sector of the lake. On the lake side no bivvys allowed in the private sector

Bait boats are allowed and dinghies with electric motor are mandatory use at your own risk. Use a life jacket at all times.

Buoys and markers/H-markers are prohibited.

The use of fixed lead systems is prohibited.

The pre baiting of particles is permitted, prepared by a company in closed packaging.

Minors are not allowed to fish without adult supervision.

We kindly ask you to inform us of special catches.

Changing fishing spots is possible, provided there is enough space and in consultation with the manager.

Caught fish must be put back immediately, NO KILL. It is strictly forbidden to possess, consume or transport fish. Violation of this will result in immediate removal from the project and legal action will be taken.

No more than 5 KG per day may be fed per rod.

Only one single hook may be on the line per rod, so treble hooks or similar are strictly prohibited!

The use of an unhooking mat and weighing bag is mandatory, wet it before use!

You may use braided line in combination with a shock leader 2x the rod length. Please note: As soon as it is observed that you have 'hit' the rod, you will have to leave the site.

The use of a keepnet/storage bag is prohibited.

Only fishing from your own swim is allowed. Be considerate of other anglers.

Always stay within 10 meters of your rods.

It is not allowed to fish with more than 3 rods per person.

Use of a dinghy is mandatory. Life vest is mandatory.

After using the toilet, you are kindly but urgently requested to leave the toilet clean.

Public toileting is strictly prohibited, please use the toilet. There is a dry toilet. It is useful to bring something yourself because the distances between some swims and the toilet are quite far.

Swimming is allowed as long as you do not disturb other fishermen.

If you are bothered by overhanging branches, you can remove them in consultation with the owner.

When the ground is damp (after rainfall), do not drive on the tracks, but over the grass.

The gates must be and remain closed at all times to prevent the sheep or dog from escaping.

On all the venues that Angling Escapes mediates you are required to take first aid/Carp Care with you and treat the carp with this.
The owner and Angling Escapes can not be held responisble for damage, loss and/ or theft of goods or accidents and/or injuries.
If you do not observe the owner his rules he may ask you to leave the premises. Angling Escapes will not be responsible for the withdrawal of your booking by the owner and will not refund your payment or deposit.
Angling Escapes reserves the right to, after violation of the rules, to refuse further business with the offender.
Importantly, make sure your travel and cancellation insurrance policy applies.

2. General rules

It is not allowed to drive arround in your car

Persons who cause damage are personally liable for this.

Pets are allowed in consultation. Please note that there may be sheep or the owner's dog.

Cars and bivvies must not block the road.

On arrival you must report to the manager.

Please clean up and take your own waste with you. It is forbidden to have loose waste on or around the spot.

On all waters that Angling Escapes mediates, you are obliged to bring First Aid and to treat the carp with it.
The manager, owner and/or Angling Escapes decides on anything that is not provided for in these regulations.

The owner, manager nor Angling Escapes is not liable for loss and/or theft of goods or accidents and/or physical injury. Neither the manager/owners of the water nor Angling Escapes can be held responsible for damage or loss of your belongings.

Important, make sure that you have taken out travel and cancellation insurance.
If the above rules are not respected, the owner may force you to leave the site at any time without any refund of the travel sum.
