The lake
The complex covers an area of 100 hectares and was dug at the end of the 1980s for gravel extraction. There are 4 lakes on the complex, but the most important one for us is Lake Sumbar, which has an area of 25 hectares. The water quickly reaches two meters deep in the shore zone, but you can find depths up to 5 meters. The bottom consists of 85% clay soil. There’s a bit of weed in the shallower spots. Generally, the water is obstacle-free. With 4 different small islands, the lake has a beautiful and intimate atmosphere. The water normally has 31 swims, but we find this too many. That’s why we’ve rented it exclusively for a few weeks, dividing the entire water into 10 zones with one pair per zone (so a maximum of 18 anglers). The rules are that each zone must be occupied by 2 people, so if you’re alone, we’ll have to pair you with another solo angler. The easiest thing is to book with your own fishing buddy.

Facilities
The entire lake is fenced, there’s a clubhouse where batteries can be charged, and there’s a basic shower and toilet area to freshen up. In the weeks that Angling Escapes has exclusive use, there’s always an English-speaking guide present who can help on-site if there are questions and who also conducts the draw upon arrival. The swims can’t be booked by number. Upon arrival, all names go into a bucket and the guide will draw one name at a time. The first name gets the first swim choice, etc. This is the fairest way. For 2024, we only have 6 weeks and once it’s full, it’s full. So if you want to fish on this iconic lake, go to the calendar, choose your date and book. If you come as a group and have rented the entire lake, bait boats and rowing boats may be used. Note that this is not allowed for individual bookings!

The fish
Many different 30 kilo fish have already been caught! With a current record common and mirror of 38.5 kilos and really many carp over 25 kilos! This makes it a venue that will break many anglers’ records. Due to the healthy water quality, the unique genetics, and of course the food, the fish are still growing enormously. A fish that’s 25 kilos today could easily go over 30 kilos next year. Besides thick common and mirror carp up to well into the 30 kilos, there are also enormous grass carp and some catfish. Due to recent carp stockings, unfortunately, the average weight is now about 14 kilos.
