The Beginning Carp Angler

How to Make a Carp Rig

You can buy a ready-made carp rig in any store. The downside of ready-made rigs is that they are never exactly how you want them. It’s often cheaper to make them yourself, although this isn’t always the case. We carp anglers know that in carp fishing, standing still is moving backward. Because the rig you always use might suddenly stop working well, and you’ll need to come up with something new.

To make your own carp rig, it’s best to start with the “knotless knot” method. Gerwin Gerlach from Sportvisserij Nederland explains how to make the “perfect rig” in a simple video. Of course, the perfect rig is the one you feel most comfortable with and works best for you.

A list of possible necessities:

  • Braided rig
  • Line Aligner
  • Swivel
  • Hook size 4 or 6 (the most used, but 2 or 8 are also used)
  • Boilie Stoppers
  • Shrink tube
  • Bait bands
  • Fastlink keyhole
  • Knot Puller
  • Speed change Swivels
  • Boilie Drill
  • Boilie Needle

Since childhood, I have been found by the water. Around the age of 12, I learned carp fishing. What makes carp fishing enjoyable for me is the relaxation and preparation for the carp session, combined with a way of fishing that constantly requires innovation to surprise the carp again!
