Etang des Chateliers

This stunning venue is managed by the couple Delphine and Jean Paul. These people have put all their heart and soul into developing the water, creating the swims, breeding and purchasing the fish, as well as maintaining the natural environment.
This is really an ideal water for the angler who also likes to have the space around him, due to the size of the venue and the way in which the lake spreads into two arms, each swim covers plenty of water and they are well spaced out around the lake.
The water is centuries old and lies between the rolling hills of the typical French countryside, an idyllic location. The lakebed is a mixture of sediments and you will find hard and soft parts to fish, there’s a very diverse ecosystem in the lake and the water is very healthy. It is rich in natural foods such as mussels, crayfish and bloodworm. Furthermore, there are some large boulders in different places on the bottom, which in turn is a good hiding place for different natural food for the carp. It certainly pays to spend some extra time to properly investigate your swim to find the perfect features to fish too and find the hotspots for your session.

In the central car park there is a really smart clubhouse with a canteen where you will be welcomed by Delphine and/or Jean Paul. Both speak perfect English and Delphine even speaks some German. You will receive all the information about your swim upon arrival and it is also possible to rent a plastic boat with a hard bottom, electric motor and batteries on site too! Please indicate to us when you make your reservation if you would like to rent a boat for your stay because there are only a few boats available for hire. The clubhouse also has great sanitary facilities, including nice clean showers and toilets.
Upon arrival, Delphine likes to create a WhatsApp group with the attendees of that week, so you can signal her for a fresh baguette in the morning and share catches with the other anglers on the lake and even discuss tactics if you like. Etang des Chateliers is really a water where you feel at home and where you feel part of the family.

Accommodation 6 person Gite
Between swim 1 and 11 you will find a luxurious 6 person gite with a beautiful view over the water. It is not possible to fish from the gite, but the gite is a great place to book extra for your family and guests. Often anglers who book the gite also book swim 1 & 2 because you can easily walk to the swim from the gite. Of course, you can also book the gite with other pegs, but you will have to walk a little further to get to your swim. The gite has a spacious kitchen with a 4 burner stove, oven, microwave and washing machine. The spacious bedroom has 2 single beds that can be pushed together if desired. This bedroom also has a bunk bed for 2 children. In the living room there is a 2 person sofa bed. Outside on the water side you have a stunning terrace to enjoy a glass of wine whilst looking out onto water.

Provisions
Between the gite and swim 1, in the car park you will find the beautiful clubhouse which has spacious refrigerators and freezers as well as the all important power points to charge your phone and battery powered equipment. In the clubhouse you will see the lakes ‘wall of fame’ you can admire photos of the beautiful fish that have been caught from the lake over the years. The sanitary facilities are located at the rear of this building. There are 2 spacious showers, separate sanitary facilities, separate washrooms.
The local baker also comes here every day with fresh baguettes and croissants for you to enjoy.

The fish stock
The fish stock is great. With approximately 800 carp on 59 acre and an abundance of natural food, the carp are in excellent condition. You will definitely notice this during the fight, they pull extremely well in this water! The strength these fish have in Etang des Chateliers has to be witnessed to be believed, they’re true warriors when you hook one and it’s certainly a fight you will remember.

In 2014 the owners netted the venue in order to get a good picture of the current stock at the time and remove any nuisance species. Since the removal of nuisance species the fish have grown extremely well. The heaviest common carp present is currently around 26kg (55lbs) and the biggest mirror has a weight of 31+kg (68lbs), but there are at least 10 other carp also above 25kg (50lbs)! Furthermore, there are more than 80 fish that are already over 20kg (44lbs) and we are curious to see these numbers increase over the coming years! The average weight is very good at over 15kg (30lbs) and there’s probably around 30% common car in the lake, around 60% mirrors and the final 10% consists of around 30 Grass carp that can be caught up to 22kg and 5 beautiful Koi carp that make for a great picture. There is no bream or poisson chat on the lake, but you will find some roach and pike present.

The swims
Some double swims can also be rented as 1 angler, these are the swims 1/2 6,8,9. Contact us if you want to book one of these swims as a single angler.

Swim 1/2. This is a double swim. This one is near the parking lot. You can unload nearby and then put your car back in the parking lot.
Swim 4. This is a double swim. This is only accessible by boat. This swim must be fished by 2 people because the site cannot be seen from the shore (safety).

Swim 6. This is a double swim. This is only accessible by boat.
Swim 7. This is a single swim. This is only accessible by boat.
Swim 8. This is a double swim. This is only accessible by boat.
Swim 9. This is a double swim. This is only accessible by boat.
Swim 10. This is a double swim. You can unload the car at the site and then place it in the central car park.
Swim 11. This is a double swim. You can unload the car at the site and then place it in the central car park.

There are 3 boats available to hire. If you want to be sure that it is there for you, you must reserve it. You are allowed to bring your own boat too if you prefer to use your own. You can indicate whether you need to reserve a boat or not in the comment box when you make a reservation.

You can also order bait packs of particles and boilies. These are specially prepared by JP.
Finally, food packages are also available. Ask us about the possibilities, we like to make sure our anglers are well fed.
